Radhanath Swami explains that Vedavyas compiled a vast literature of vedic scriptures but he was not satisfied until his guru maharaj instructed him to write Srimad Bhagavatam. Our acharyas also explain that Sri is name for Srimati Radharani and Srimad Bhagavatam is literature amongst all the vedas which perfectly install the glories of Srimati Radharani even without revealing her name. Srimad Bhagavatam is Paramahamsa Samhita. Gadadar Pandit absorbed himself in recitation of Srimad Bhagavatam at Tota Gopinath mandir at Jagannath Puri. Gadadar Pandit is non different from Srimati Radharani and he resided at Tota Gopinath completely absorbed in hearing and reading Srimad Bhagavatam.
Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu had a daily routine. He used to rise early in the morning and bath in sea, then spend several hours taking darshan of Lord Jagannath by standing behind Garuda Stambh. After that He used to visit Haridas Thakur to have long discussion about Krishna. Then He took his noon bath in ocean and prasad at Gambira. Everyday afternoon Lord Caitanya would come to Tota Gopinath temple and spend several hours discussing Srimad Bhagavatam with Gadadar Pandit. Primarily, He would absorb Himself in hearing Srimad Bhagavatm and then hearing its meaning. Torrents of tears would flow from both of His eyes on Srimad Bhagavtam and confluence of tears flooded the ink of SB which made pages of Srimad Bhagavatm invisible to the eyes. On daily basis, Lord Caitanya in the mood of Srimati Radharani was completely absorbed in hearing Srimad Bhagavatm from Gadadar Pandit who is non different from Srimati Radharani.
In this sense, Radhanath swami explains that we must understand in a deeper way the great contribution which Srila Prabhupada offered to the world, Srila Prabhupada translated and gave commentaries on Srimad Bhagavatam. Srila Prabhupada & all our acharyas consider Srimad Bhagavatam the most important of all scriptures. Srila Prabhupada, to prepare his journey to the western world, he constantly meditated to compile Srimad Bhagavatam purport of 1st canto in a simple room at Radha Damodar temple of Vrindavan. He spend day and night of several years to give us Srimad Bhagavatam.
One saintly person told Radhanath Swami that once he was hosting Srila Prabhupada in his ashram and Srila Prabhupada was so deeply immersed in giving purports to Srimad Bhagavatam all day and all night that several hours would pass before he would take his prasad which was kept outside his room for him.
Radhanath Swami explains that Srila Prabhupada was not only absorbed in reading Srimad Bhagavatam, but in deep spirit of compassion, he was also absorbed in presenting Srimad Bhagavatam in such a way to the entire world that they can understand and accept the Srimad Bhagavatam in their life.
When Srila Prabhupada completed translation of 1st canto (3 volume) of Srimad Bhagavatam, he considered himself ready for the journey to the western world. He had a little bag with some clothes, japa beads, umbrella and a huge wooden cart of Srimad Bhagavatam. When Srimad Bhagavatam come out the Jaladutta, he explained to Brahmananda Bharati that there was nobody there to receive him and he was not knowing whether to go straight, left or right but Prabhupada said that he was perfectly confident as he knew that he has his Srimad Bhagavatam. Wherever he went, he tried to induce people to take Srimad Bhagavatam. He sold copy of Srimad Bhagavatam to the captain of the Ship. With great difficulties & effort Srila Prabhupada carried his Srimad Bhagavatam wherever he went in western world. It was not easy for Srila Prabhupada to travel around with giant books with no home but Srila Prabhupada had faith that everything there is to know for a devotee to become pure devotee and go to spiritual world is there in the first three volume of 1st canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.
Radhanath Swami explains that Srila Prabhupada had perfect faith that even if he does not live to translate other cantos of Srimad Bhagavatam, the 1st canto of Srimad Bhagavatam is enough which can make anyone become a pure devotee.
Everything is there in the first canto of Srimad Bhagavatam and this is how the Hare Krishna movement exploded in the western world. Early days there were no other literature than 1st canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. Young inexperienced boys and girls in their early 20′s who never heard about Krishna where going to American and European cities and starting center and performing Naam Sankirtan in the street and recruiting more people to surrender to Krishna in the western world than ever made even today in the western countries. This was made by brand new devotees and only book they had is first canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.
Radhanath Swami explains that what is going to transport us in spiritual life is explicit faith in words of spiritual master and our way of going to spiritual world is to have faith in what Srila Prabhupada has given us, especially in his commentary on Srimad Bhagavatam. Radhanath swami states that Sri Bhaktisiddhath Sarsawati Thakur Maharaj has said that if one understand even one word of Srimad Bhagavatam then he will become a pure devotee.
Srimad Bhaktisiddhanth Sarsawati Thakur explains that if there is dissolution in world and all the books in all libraries in entire worlds is lost still there is no loss if Srimad Bhagavatam is there because everything is there in Srimad Bhagavatam.
